Seeking Penpals

Prison-Pen-Pal-LettersThere are many sites on the internet that are looking for pen pals for prisoners, but most of them seem to be some sort of advertising business.

We are hoping to help a few. We know we can’t help all prisoners. We like to think of the story of a man walking along the beach and throwing starfish back in to the ocean. The little boy watching him and says, “Mister, there are millions of starfish. What difference does it make if you throw a few back?”

His response: “It makes all the difference in the world to those few.”

If you want to help out and are willing to write a letter once a month or so, please use the contact form below and say in the comments “I’m willing to be a pen pal.”

Nothing brightens up a prisoner’s day more than receiving a letter. It gives them hope. It gives them a reason to rehabilitate. It lets them know that there are good people in the world.

Sean’s Artwork

TomAndJerrySwordFightLately, Sean has been adding artwork to his letters, which we are finding very entertaining.

As you can see, he is becoming talented with a pencil.

We’re not sure if he traces them first, or is drawing them free hand, but they are quite impressive! (May 9th – Sean tells us these are freehand drawings)

As you can see – he likes cartoon characters.

We are still looking for pen pals for inmates! Please use the contact form below if you would like to help out here.

Assisting Destitute Inmates

SeanFounded in January 2012, the idea for The Sean Ashman Foundation has been in action since 2002.

Sean Ashman is currently serving seven life sentences for a disputed crime, where no one was injured. The reason? He could not afford legal support at the time and was relying on the mercy of the court.

Sean discovered that courts are not always merciful. In fact, they have quotas they must meet, to determine their slice of the annual budget pie. If they don’t get so many convictions they don’t get to keep their jobs. It was quite a surprise to us to find out that courts, judges, attorneys, etc are actually happy when there is a huge backlog of cases. It means job security!

The Foundation would like to change the system of course, but that is a tremendously large undertaking. In the meantime, we wish to assist those who don’t have funds or outside help from family or friends in trying to work within the system.

Please use the contact form below if you would like to contact us about the Foundation.
